Spiritual and Adventure Journey to Kedarnath, Chopta, Badrinath, Tungnath, and Rishikesh

We are excited to share our recent spiritual and adventure journey that our Super Trekkers members, along with our families and kids, experienced together. From the breathtaking heights of the Himalayas to the banks of the Ganges, this trip was a beautiful blend of spirituality and adventure.

It was a perfect mix of spirituality, adventure, and bonding, with moments we’ll cherish forever.

Rishikesh – Where It All Began

Our journey kicked off in the vibrant town of Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world. The evening was magical as we gathered at Triveni Ghat for the Ganga Aarti. The sight of flickering diyas, the rhythmic chants, and the serene flow of the Ganga set the tone for our spiritual adventure. Kids were fascinated, and even our senior citizens felt a deep sense of peace. We stayed overnight in Rishikesh, buzzing with excitement for what lay ahead.

Kedarnath: A Spiritual Oasis

Early morning, we hit the road for Sonprayag, the base village for Kedarnath. The drive was long but breathtaking. We passed Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form the Ganga—a sight that left us in awe.

We also stopped at Dhari Devi Temple, soaking in its divine vibes. The winding roads, lush green hills, and glimpses of snow-capped peaks kept everyone glued to the windows. By evening, we reached Sitapur town in Sonprayag, ready for the big trek.

Trek to Kedarnath – A Test of Faith and Stamina

We started our trek from Gaurikund, the starting point for the 17-km journey to Kedarnath. The trail was challenging but rewarding. The path snakes through rocky terrain, with the Mandakini River flowing alongside, offering stunning views of waterfalls and misty mountains. The air was crisp, and the landscape felt like a painting—green valleys, rugged cliffs, and distant snowy peaks.

For our group, the trek took 7-10 hours. The kids were troopers, and we made sure to take breaks for our senior citizens at tea stalls and rest points. Ponies and palanquins were available, which some of us used for parts of the journey. The final stretch was tough, but reaching Kedarnath felt like a victory. The sight of the ancient Kedarnath Temple, nestled among towering peaks, was overwhelming. Kedarnath, home to one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva.

That evening, we attended the Aarti at the temple. Despite the peak season crowds, the atmosphere was electric with devotion. We managed to get special pooja tokens, which allowed us a close darshan inside garbh grah. It was a moment of pure bliss.

Exploring Kedarnath and Descent

The next morning, we woke up to a chilly -1°C! The climate was cold but invigorating. We visited Bhairav Temple, Shankaracharya Samadhi, and Bhim Shila, soaking in the spiritual energy of these sacred spots. Our group snapped tons of photos, capturing the temple against the backdrop of snow-dusted mountains. After a hearty breakfast, we began our descent back to Gaurikund, which was easier but still took a few hours. We spent the night in Sonaprayag, sharing stories of the trek over dinner.

Chopta and Tungnath – A Steep Climb and Unexpected Weather

The next day, we drove to Chopta, known as the “Mini Switzerland of India.” The rolling meadows and pine forests were a treat for the eyes. From Chopta, we started the 3.5-km trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world at 3,680 meters. The trail was steep, with stone steps winding through dense forests and open meadows. The views were unreal—snowy peaks peeking through clouds and vibrant wildflowers dotting the path.

Tungnath Trek

Halfway through, the weather took a dramatic turn. It started raining, and soon, hailstones pelted down! We took shelter under trees and at a small tea stall, laughing and making the most of it. Our kids were full of energy, and their laughter echoed through the mountains, inspiring us to keep going.

Sadly, the rain stopped us from reaching Chandrashila, the summit above Tungnath, but the temple itself was worth it. Its ancient stone structure and serene vibes left us in awe.

Chopta is not only a base for the Tungnath trek, but it also serves as a serene escape for those looking to disconnect from the chaos of modern life. We returned Homestay at Chopta  and spent the evening enjoying local Garhwali cuisine, and chai tasted like heaven after the trek. That night, we relaxed, sharing stories around a bonfire.

Badrinath – A Divine Destination

Next, we drove to Badrinath, another sacred stop on our journey. The drive was scenic, with the Alaknanda River keeping us company. Reaching Badrinath, we visited the iconic Badrinath Temple in the evening. The darshan was soul-stirring, and the night view of the temple, lit up against the dark mountains, was breathtaking. We felt a deep sense of gratitude as we soaked in the spiritual energy.

We kicked off with white-water rafting on the Ganga. The rapids were thrilling, and everyone—from kids to adults—had a blast navigating the waves.

In the evening, we headed to Haridwar, the final stop on our journey. Early the next morning, we took a dip in the holy Ganga at Har Ki Pauri, feeling cleansed and refreshed. The Ganga Aarti in the evening was a beautiful way to wrap up our trip. The chants, the glowing diyas, and the collective devotion of the crowd left us with a sense of peace and fulfillment.
